Plum Gals

Happy International Women's Day!

For those who don't know, this year's theme is #pressforprogress, take a look and see what you can do to help.

Here at Plum, we are committed to gender equality. It is no secret we need more women in tech. Even though we are a small team we are currently 30% female, but the goal is 50%. Take a look at available roles at Plum now and help us make it happen!

At Plum, we love celebrating our ladies and making sure they have a place centre stage. In fact, Elise and Rachel are representing Plum at the Open Banking Startup Partnership Programme over in Finland this week, and Daniella is speaking about community at GA on Monday.

Here is a little bit about the Plum Gals so you can get to know us and hopefully join our ranks!

Angela
Role: Head of Customer Happiness
Words to live by: Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.
Female inspiration: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Why did you join Plum?
I joined Plum because I could see what a difference Plum was making in people’s lives. I am not great at saving, and Plum provides the perfect helping hand. I could also see everyone at Plum really cared about helping people save and manage their money better. I really wanted to be part of that!

When you are not working what are you up to?
Taking photographs or binge-watching the latest series on Netflix.

One piece of advice for ladies everywhere?
Your physical and mental wellbeing are important. Take time to take care of yourself. Not only will it make you feel amazing, it will also help improve your mental clarity. Helping you to be more productive at your job, and aid in achieving the goals you've set yourself.

Elise
Role: Head of Operations
Words to live by: Go for it.
Female inspiration: My Mum

Why did you join Plum?
I used to head up one of the support functions at Deliveroo but got tired of late deliveries and spilt food. I love how you can just make things happen at a young company, without getting caught in lots of red-tape. I wanted to move towards a company that I really felt was striving to help people - let’s face it, we could all do with a hand at saving money.

When you are not working what are you up to?
Eating and eating and eating. I think there’s a theme here. I also like a good bev down the pub, as well as a cycling and just sport in general.

One piece of advice for ladies everywhere?
Don’t undersell yourself. You might think that a task is beyond your skill level or feel that others have more experience - if you think something is worth pursuing, validate your idea and go for it.

Daniella
Role: Comms Lead
Words to live by: The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
Female inspiration: Gal Gadot

Why did you join Plum?
I was working in a beauty start-up after completing my business degree just over a year earlier at the London College of Fashion. I loved the fast pace of fashion (not to mention the freebies) and start-up culture but always felt that I wanted to do something with more positive social impact. I started looking and found Plum!

When you are not working what are you up to?
Usually eating and/or looking at puppies on Instagram.

One piece of advice for ladies everywhere?
Never be afraid to ask, in both your personal and professional life. Doesn't matter if it's a promotion, taking on more responsibility or simply being included in a meeting. If you don't ask you don't get.

Rachel
Role: Customer Happiness
Words to live by: Be kind. Always.
Female inspiration: Mary Berry

Why did you join Plum?
Fresh out of Uni I was searching for a challenging role - and I found one! I was super keen to work for a startup as I wanted to make a real difference to a business and to the users of Plum. I really believe in Plum - it’s so refreshing to be within a team that are all so hard working and driven!

When you are not working what are you up to?
I love food so you’ll find me eating or cooking, often both at the same time.

One piece of advice for the ladies everywhere?
Always strive to be the best version of yourself but don’t take life to seriously. Work hard for what you want, and make sure you enjoy life to its fullest!
